Adaptive Grid Impedance Shaping Approach Applied for Grid-Forming Power Converters

This paper proposes an adaptive grid impedance shaping approach, implemented through a variable structure virtual control strategy (VS-VIS), to improve the power flow of grid-forming converters (GF-PC). In this strategy, equivalent estimator (EGIE) evaluates feeder X/R ratio determine required reach objective. Besides, definition also considers converter rating ensure system’s feasibility. A negative resistance series interconnected with positive reactance implements impedance. Moreover, is only updated when extrapolates deviation limits determined by allowed voltages boundaries specified standards. split into two parts that use conventional and sliding mode (SMC) approaches. The first main part reactance, while second provides fine-tuning action matching objectives compensating uncertainties. grid-shaping method smooth compensation increasing GF-PC resilience under variation. These features constitute novelty compared methods presented in literature. Experimental tests obtained from laboratory setup demonstrate effectiveness robustness proposed method.
